Being part of Durham County Council Youth Services, we were encouraged to take part in their Sports Day, when other youth clubs from the area took part. We managed to have at least two winners, which were in the 880 yards and the mile. These winners went forward to the County Final, which was held on Houghton Modern School Athletic Ground on Saturday, 12th September 1959. Although not sharing in the honours, they were not disgraced!
